The new head of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss, has named Michelle Donelan as the new leader of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) department.

Donelan was chosen for this position on September 6th, joining Truss’s new team of leaders.

Donelan takes the place of Nadine Dorries, who stepped down from her position as Culture Secretary after a year.

In her new role, Donelan will be responsible for overseeing the government’s examination of the 2005 Gambling Act.

Despite several delays, a document outlining how the government will address changes to the industry is expected to be released soon.

The most recent postponement occurred after Boris Johnson, the previous Prime Minister, announced his departure in July.

Before this, Donelan held the position of Secretary of State for Education for a brief period in July 2022, and served as Minister of State for Higher and Further Education from September 2021 to July 2022.

Today, Michael Dugher, the head of the Betting and Gaming Council, expressed his congratulations to Donelan on her new position and stated that the organization is eager to continue working closely with the DCMS.

Im delighted for Michelle Donelan in her new role as the head of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport,” stated Duggal. “Our members represent a vast workforce of 119,000 individuals, spanning from local enterprises to tech behemoths, and we’re eager to collaborate with her.”

“We’ve enjoyed a robust partnership with DCMS for an extended period, working hand-in-hand to identify the most suitable approach for the gambling review. We aim to witness genuine transformation and elevated safety protocols to safeguard vulnerable individuals, while ensuring that the millions who partake in gambling can do so in a responsible manner.”
