Spain: Digital wagering income experienced a modest uptick in the final quarter, reaching €315.3 million.

Digital wagering income in Spain witnessed a slight rise in the fourth quarter, climbing 0.6% annually to €315.3 million (£269.8 million/$342.0 million), with overall deposits also experiencing an uptrend.

Gross wagering income in the final quarter exhibited a 3.6% increase compared to the third quarter.

Gaming establishments constituted the primary revenue source in the final quarter.

This sector generated a total income of €171.3 million, representing 54.3% of all market income in Spain. Expansion within the gaming market was primarily driven by a 25.9% surge in slot machine income and a 15.3% increase in live roulette income.

Furthermore, sports wagering income attained €114.7 million, accounting for 36.4% of total income, while poker income amounted to €25.4 million, representing 8.1% of total income. Poker tournaments experienced a negative change rate of 0.5%, while poker cash saw a 7.0% increase.

An additional €3.8 million in income originated from bingo activities, contributing 1.2% of all income, while competition income reached €50,000.

Total deposits experienced a 9.4% increase in the final quarter.
In terms of player expenditures, consumers deposited a total of €1.04 billion into their digital wagering accounts in the final quarter. This represented a 9.4% increase from the equivalent period in 2022.

The monthly average number of active gaming accounts reached 1,269,585, reflecting a 6.8% annual increase.

However, the typical monthly count of fresh gaming profiles dipped by 2.3%, settling at 129,207.

Regarding operator promotional efforts, overall expenditures in the concluding quarter amounted to €113 million, a 5.3% climb compared to the previous year. Of this sum, €53 million was allocated to promotional activities, €45.2 million to advertising, €14 million to affiliate marketing, and €0.75 million to sponsorships.

By the end of the final quarter, Spain boasted 78 authorized operators. This encompassed 49 providing casino games, 43 offering sports wagering, 9 providing poker, 3 providing bingo, and 2 providing competitions.
