Crown Resorts declared it has obtained three provisional alcohol permits for its Barangaroo lodging establishment in Sydney. Issued by the New South Wales Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA), these permits will enable Crown Sydney to maintain alcoholic beverage service in its non-gaming zones. This encompasses its drinking establishments and a pair of ground-level dining venues.

These permits function as a temporary measure until the current licenses lapse, effective from May 1, 2021, through October 31, 2021. Crown’s Executive Chair, Helen Coonan, underscored the company’s dedication to restoring confidence with the regulatory body. She conveyed that Crown is diligently collaborating with the ILGA to fully exhibit its capacity to manage a secure and accountable casino setting in Sydney. The issuance of these new alcohol permits is perceived as a favorable development in that pursuit.

While recognizing the ILGA’s choice to grant the provisional permits, ILGA Chair Philip Crawford reaffirmed that the regulatory body is meticulously evaluating Crown’s responses to the matters outlined in the Bergin Report. This report, originating from an investigation into Crown’s business activities, emphasized significant apprehensions regarding the company’s conduct. Crawford stressed that considerable alterations are required before the Authority can confidently reinstate Crown’s gaming license.

Crown Resorts encounters a brief hurdle in Perth as the metropolis enters a sudden three-day lockdown commencing April 27th. Although their Sydney equivalent relishes a refreshed permit, the Perth gaming establishment will briefly shut its entrances to adhere to governmental health protocols. This shutdown will impact gaming area activities, dining establishments, the auditorium, and all banquet and assembly spaces. Nevertheless, the lodging will stay accessible, though with diminished occupancy.
