Australian Media Regulator Cracks Down on Illegal Offshore Gambling Websites

The Australian media regulator, ACMA, has taken action against numerous unlawful overseas gaming platforms, directing internet providers to restrict access to them.

A probe by the watchdog revealed that nine internet companies were violating the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. This website blocking measure is one of several enforcement mechanisms employed to safeguard Australians from the dangers of illicit online betting.

Moreover, since 2017, when ACMA began enforcing new regulations on unlawful offshore gambling, over 180 illicit operators have withdrawn from the Australian market.
